Labor Day & 9/11

This is a photo of the North Tower of New York’s World Trade Center under construction. Accompanying text from the source reads:

The World Trade Center project in lower Manhattan last week entered a new phase of construction. A crane placed the first of 76 huge steel columns, shaped like short-handled pitch-forks, that will transfer the load of 101 stories of office space to the substructure. The four-story columns are the largest structural components of the project’s twin 110-story towers.

While the original source of the image and text is from what is said to be contemporaneous articles from Engineering News Record (I have not verfied this), my direct source is 9/11 Research, a 9/11 truther website. As the tenth anniversary of 9/11 arrives, it seems somehow appropriate in considering the profound meaning of the event to contemplate, too, the complex and uncomfortable character of political and world culture of which 9/11 truthers are just one manifestation.

Over the next two weeks, I will be posting on 9/11, focusing on the contemporaneous political conditions and the immediate cultural and political reaction to it.
