Jazz Is: 43 – Treme: Funeral Scene & Second Line

.

The audience and appreciation are starting to build, in its third season, for Treme, just as it did late for the brilliant David Simon‘s earlier The Wire. Whether it is the worlds of the inner city drug trade, policing, municipal government, unions, education, or journalism in Baltimore, or of high end chefs and dining in Treme, the ex reporter investigates and presents these cultures with unchallenged authenticity. Of course, in Treme, the first world is that of the music and its thread through the life of New Orleans.

In this scene, from among another flawless Simon cast, we see Wendell Pierce, formerly of The Wire, and the standout among standouts Khandi Alexander, who here completely inhabits the moment of a woman who loses her grief in the music and the dance.
