Some blogs you might wish to explore – not, in the main, big names, though some are higher profile than others. The big names blog readers read when they read big name blogs readers can find themselves because those bloggers are, well, big names. And generally American. If you’re American. Here, some are and are not – American. Big names, not. Yet.

• Adam Holland – Adam regularly exposes the evidence of Antisemitism, racism, and crackpottery among the better known-than-they-should-be that the MSM lets slide. He takes a lot of abuse for it in the comments section too. They know he’s on them. If Ron Paul actually makes another run for President, Adam’s work will be an essential resource.

• Yaacov Lozowick’s Ruminations – Historian, author of Right to Exist, A Moral Defense of Israel’s Wars and other works, former Director of Archives at Yad Vashem, Yaacov is to the right of me (though it wasn’t always so), but if you want to know what is going on in Israel from the perspective of an Israeli who knows, who wears no blinders about the nature of war or peace, Yaacov is a person to read.

• Writing Without Paper – Maureen E. Doallas “made [her]living as a writer and editor for more than 30 years and retired in 2007.” Not quite. A poet (see yesterday’s Eating Poetry) and patron of the many varied arts, Maureen’s blog is a cornucopia of artistic and humane riches.

• Butterflies and Wheels – “Butterflies and Wheels covers a range of subjects that could be loosely grouped under ‘skepticism’ or ‘critical thinking.’ It includes original and re-published articles, daily news links, an assortment of cod dictionaries and the like, links to older articles of note, a blog, an archive of Julian Baggini’s column Bad Moves, and much more. The editor is Ophelia Benson.”

• George Szirtes – Poet and translator “George Szirtes was born in Budapest in 1948 and came to England as a refugee in 1956. He was brought up in London and studied Fine Art in London and Leeds. His poems began appearing in national magazines in 1973 and his first book, The Slant Door, was published in 1979. It won the Faber Memorial prize the following year.” The product and sensibility thereof.

• Two Weeks Notice – subtitled “a Latin American blog,” TWN, authored by Greg Weeks, associate professor of political science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and editor of the academic journal The Latin Americanist provides expert perspective on all of Central and South America, an area North Americans should think and know more about.

• Generation Y – “is a Blog inspired by people like me, with names that start with or contain a ‘Y’. Born in Cuba in the ’70s and ’80s, marked by schools in the countryside, Russian cartoons, illegal emigration and frustration.” Yoani Sanchez, who posed questions to President Obama and received answers, offers a much-noted view from inside Cuba.

• Oliver Kamm – “Oliver Kamm is a leader writer and columnist at The Times [of London]. He was previously an investment banker and co-founder of an asset management firm.” Smart, hard hitting, suffering no fools, Kamm offfers sharp perspective on England, and on the world from England.
